On September 30, schools across Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) were encouraged to take time, through quiet reflection or participation in board-wide, school, and community events, to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Students and staff considered how we, as Treaty People, can work towards reconciling our past and present relationships for a better future together.
The TLDSB Indigenous Student Success Team hosted a Truth and Reconciliation Learning Event. In the morning, in-person events took place at Stuart Baker Elementary School, J.D. Hodgson Elementary School, and Haliburton Highlands Secondary School, which saw local Indigenous community partner, Brittany Taylor, and Odawa Anishinaabe Metis Knowledge Holder, Larry O’Connor, share messages of truth, resiliency, and the importance of being part of reconciliation.
In the afternoon, the team offered online learning to the entire TLDSB community. Classes engaged in a recorded teaching with Indigenous Knowledge Keepers and community members.
