April Newsletter

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Let’s hope that the worst of snow and the cold weather is behind us and we’re getting closer to sunny days and warmth.  As the snow melts, the puddles on our playground continue to grow.  Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather and for possible wet conditions on the playground.

Our school continues to buzz with excitement from a variety of activities happening in and around Pine Glen Public School. As the snow continues to melt, our playground is full of a variety of games and activities during our recesses. Students engage in soccer, basketball, skipping, as well as play on the playground equipment.  Our grade 3 students have begun their Swim to Survive Program at the Summit Centre. This is a great opportunity for all grade 3 students to learn and practice swimming skills at no cost.  Our intermediate students competed in a volleyball tournament at Riverside Public school to begin the season and represented our school showcasing respect and sportsmanship to all. Our volleyball season is getting started for the month of April. Junior students have been invited to participate in playing passball intramurals. While this is a new game to me, the students are loving it. Lego Club also continues to engage a large number of students during specific recesses throughout the week.

In the coming months, our students will engage in our Jump Rope for Heart initiative as well as our PGP Track and Field Day. More information to follow as we grow closer to those dates.

Talent Show:

Students continue to practice and try out for our upcoming Talent Show. The Talent Show will take place on Thursday, April 20th at 11:45. Parents are invited to attend.

Battle of the Books:

Both junior and intermediate students have been participating in our Battle of the Books. Teams competed in Junior level (grades 4 to 6) and/or Intermediate level (grades 7 and 8), testing their knowledge of a set of books. The final battle was an exciting one and all students did a great job of working together as a team while reading some excellent literature.

Earth Day:

Earth Day has been celebrated by billions of people around the globe, annually every April 22, to join together in promoting awareness for the health of our environment. This year, PGP students will engage in a variety of activities with their classmates and the school community to help ensure we all do our part to keep our planet clean and sustainable.

Parent Council :

We are always looking for new Parent Council members. Next month’s Parent Council meeting is Monday, April 24, 2023 at 6:30 in our school library.

Spirit Wear:

Orders that were placed have been sent home with students. Please reach out if you have any issues or did not receive your order.

Character Trait:

March’s character trait was Sportsmanship. As we move into April, our character trait will be Self Control.  Students are encouraged to learn about and embrace the trait of the month to develop and refine their conduct, habits and attitudes.

Looking ahead, please note Friday, April 7th and Monday, April 10th are both Easter holidays and schools are closed both days.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Sincerely,

Debbie Thompson

Proud PGP Principal
